EA 227 FAULT CODE
Worcester Bosch

Ignition Failure / No Flame Detected

Medium Severity DIY Check Possible

The boiler has failed to detect a flame after four ignition attempts, triggering a safety lockout. The most common Worcester Bosch fault code, especially in winter.

Cold Weather Note

EA 227 in winter is most commonly caused by a frozen condensate pipe. Thaw with warm water and reset before calling an engineer.

Step-by-Step Fix Guide

  1. Step 1

Check other gas appliances work to confirm your gas supply is on

  2. Step 2

If on a prepayment meter, ensure it has credit

  3. Step 3

In cold weather, check if the condensate pipe is frozen (locate the white plastic pipe on an outside wall)

  4. Step 4

If frozen, gently pour warm water (NOT boiling) along its full length until you hear gurgling

  5. Step 5

Press the reset button once and wait

  6. Step 6

If the fault persists, call a Gas Safe engineer to inspect the ignition electrode, gas valve, and gas supply

Gas Safe Reminder

Work on gas appliances must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. The steps above cover safe checks a homeowner can perform - any internal component replacement requires a qualified professional. If in doubt, always call an engineer.
