Ignition Lockout

Medium Severity DIY Check Possible

The boiler has locked out after failing to ignite or losing its flame. A persistent version of the F2 fault requiring a manual reset.

Cold Weather Note

L2 in winter is most commonly a frozen condensate pipe. Locate the white plastic pipe on the outside wall and gently pour warm water along it.

Step-by-Step Fix Guide

  1. Step 1

Check gas supply (other gas appliances should work)

  2. Step 2

In cold weather, check the condensate pipe for frost and thaw with warm water

  3. Step 3

Press the RESTART button (flame symbol) and hold for 2–3 seconds

  4. Step 4

If the boiler doesn't start, wait 5 minutes and try once more

  5. Step 5

If L2 persists after two resets, call a Gas Safe engineer

Gas Safe Reminder

Work on gas appliances must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. The steps above cover safe checks a homeowner can perform - any internal component replacement requires a qualified professional. If in doubt, always call an engineer.
