No Oil Supply / Empty Tank

High Severity DIY Check Possible

The burner cannot obtain an adequate supply of oil fuel. The tank may be empty, the supply valve may be closed, or the fuel filter may be blocked.

Cold Weather Note

In very cold weather, sludge and wax from the oil can block the filter. Check and replace the filter before calling an engineer.

Step-by-Step Fix Guide

  1. Step 1

Check the oil tank dipstick or gauge — minimum 10cm of oil is needed

  2. Step 2

Check the oil supply valve (usually a red handle near the tank) is fully open

  3. Step 3

Check the oil line filter for contamination and replace if necessary

  4. Step 4

If oil supply is confirmed, call an OFTEC engineer to bleed air from the system

Gas Safe Reminder

Work on gas appliances must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. The steps above cover safe checks a homeowner can perform - any internal component replacement requires a qualified professional. If in doubt, always call an engineer.
