The most common Ariston fault code. The burner has failed to ignite or the ionisation signal was not detected after ignition.
Ariston 501 in winter is very commonly caused by a frozen condensate pipe. Thaw before calling an engineer.
Step-by-Step Fix Guide

Step 1
Check that other gas appliances in the home are working

In cold weather, check the condensate pipe for ice and thaw with warm water

Press the reset button (usually a flame icon) and hold for 2-3 seconds

If the fault persists, call a Gas Safe engineer to check the ignition electrode, gas valve, and gas supply pressure
